A security camera works like a digital camera. It captures light through a lens. The image sensor turns that light into video. The video is then sent to a recorder or saved inside the camera. Some cameras send footage through an internet connection. This allows you to watch live video on your phone. Surveillance cameras can record all the time. Others start recording only when they detect motion.

There are different types of security cameras available today. Each type works in a slightly different way and suits different security needs.
Common types include:
Wired cameras use physical cables for power and video. Wireless cameras connect through Wi-Fi, while battery-powered cameras operate without direct power cables.

Wired Cameras and Analog Cameras:
Wired cameras connect to a recording device using cables. Many analog cameras use coaxial cables to send video signals to a recorder. These systems usually connect to a Digital Video Recorder DVR. The DVR stores the video footage on a hard drive for later viewing.
Wired systems are stable and reliable because they do not depend on Wi-Fi signals. A registered electrician can install them safely and ensure all wiring meets safety standards.
IP Cameras and NVR Systems:

Wireless and Battery-Powered Cameras:
A wireless security camera connects to Wi-Fi instead of using video cables. It sends footage through your internet connection so you can view it on a phone or computer. Some cameras are battery-powered and use a rechargeable battery. Battery life depends on how often the camera records and how many alerts it sends.
Wireless cameras can store footage on an SD card or upload it to cloud storage. Cloud storage allows you to access recordings from anywhere with internet access.
Night Vision and Outdoor Cameras:
Outdoor cameras are designed to handle rain, heat, and changing weather conditions. Many models include night vision for low-light recording. Night vision uses infrared light to capture clear images in the dark. Some advanced cameras even offer colour night vision for sharper and more detailed footage at night.
This helps you monitor your home clearly, even after sunset.
Even though cameras may seem simple, proper home security installation is important. A residential electrician can place cameras in the best spots. A registered electrician ensures safe wiring for wired systems. If your system stops working or loses power, an emergency electrician can fix the problem quickly. A professional setup helps your security cameras work better and last longer.
Choosing the right camera system is important, but proper installation makes the difference. Safe wiring, correct placement, and reliable setup ensure your security cameras work as expected.
